Hello race fans… Just a quick note announcing that our Short Code is ready for testing/certifications with all carriers except Cingular. They should be ready later this week or early next week. Assuming our certification goes well, we’re on track to offer the service as early as mid-November but likely after the 3rd week. Stay tuned!

This month, mikesparr.com has achieved its highest ever visitor traffic stats. Back in college when I was more active on my site, I was pleased with a few thousand visitors per month, 10,000 page views and 100,000 hits (before more rigorous browser caching of images). After several years’ dormancy, I began re-publishing this site more actively and it has showed.
October 1 - October 28 2006:
- unique visitors: 11,641
- page views: 270,092
- hits: 310,216
Thanks to all those loyal visitors - average of 2.48 visits each so I’ll make sure I keep some interesting stuff posted. My nonsensical rantings will continue, rest assured. Oh, and I’ll be sure to add more tutorials - likely in the SOA, Web Services and Java realm plus a new tutorial on creating a mash-up using PHP, PEAR SOAP and a couple free web services - stay tuned.

Here’s a one-question IQ Test to help you decide how you should Spend the rest of your day…
There is a mute who wants to buy a toothbrush. By imitating the Action of brushing one’s teeth, he successfully expresses himself to the shopkeeper and the purchase is done.
Now, if there is a blind man who wishes to buy a pair of Sunglasses, how should he express himself?
Think about it first Before scrolling down for the answer…

I couldn’t resist. I saw this photo online and it’s been forwarded around in emails and posted on MySpace so I figure copyright is a non issue… Thanks to the creative soul who snapped this pic!

I told my cats, Paris and Nikki to bring the Coronas!

My cousin, Shane Bemis, is doing very well in the last stretch of his mayoral campaign and has attended four very successful debates. During my prior update to the website we added the endorsement of the local paper, The Gresham Outlook. Recently, The Oregonian also followed suit and supports electing Shane as Mayor of Gresham. I just updated the site recognizing this newest supporter.
Working with his campaign manager, Karylinn Echols of The Tugman Group, I built and published his online campaign site, shanebemisformayor.com. Feel free to check it out and wish Shane “good luck”.

After work today I bought 3 more radio-controlled toys from Air Hogs. They are foam and very durable compared to all my other more expensive ones. I bought another plane that I can fly in the backyard, and another indoor helicopter and then a very cool land, air and water machine I saw some online videos of. My buddy Travis purchased that and the plane, so now we’re looking for suitable areas to rendezvous and enjoy our R/C toys.

- 2006 Butterfly (world’s lightest r/c plane: 4 ounces [4 paperclips])
- 2006 Shoestring (hand-assembled indoor acrobatic racer)
- 2006 helicopter (dual counter-rotating blades w/ gyro)
- 2006 backyard plane (foam and dual wing-mounted props)
- 2006 mini helicopter (foam with dual counter-rotating blades and dual propulsion props)
- 2006 multi-surface (land, air, water, snow)

I’ll talk Jamie into taking some photos since most of these are flying toys. Travis and I will soon take our multi-surface to local parks and drive them around on the grass. We may also take them down to the Bitterroot River near his house and try them on water and next week, we can take them to some local golf courses since they’ll be closing soon.
Keep ya posted (at least all the kids at heart).

Upon return from London earlier this month, I came home to a lighted web in the window and spiders hanging from the ceiling of the foyer. The cats love the spiders, of course. Today Jamie and I decided to add to our Halloween collection and bought some more outdoor decor. See below.

Halloween decor for the house. The pumpkin is about 6 feet round and includes a witch crashed into it head first with her legs that kick.

Please visit: www.montanaworker.com and spread the word. I’ve decided to sponsor a comprehensive career website for Montana employers and jobseekers. This service will be sponsored by Goomzee and provide this service free of charge for all. Anyone can post and have a place to centralize their resume and profile - they can choose if it’s visible by employers or not so not just for people looking for jobs.
There is an optional Premium job posting that receives priority listing and color highlights for any employers who would like a little extra notice. The fee is only $10 and helps cover costs of providing this free service. That is purely optional but I aim to help folks statewide by connecting employers and jobseekers.
Other services available at local Universities and also Julie Foster’s great work with Montana Jobs Network (montana-jobs.net) are also available. Thanks for spreading the word and if people like this new service, I will invest some more into making it known throughout the state.

I blocked out 2 hours from my hectic schedule to enjoy a round of 9 holes yesterday morning with my buddy and his father. We golfed at one of Missoula’s 6 courses (including King Ranch in Frenchtown) and I took this photo below with my cell phone camera off the #1 tee box. The pic doesn’t do the view justice but a teaser on how beautiful the valley looks with the colors of Autumn.

I often refer customers and potential customers alike to this article. I thought I would post a link to it so others can learn more about the strategy to online marketing leveraging Google’s Adwords program.
Google Adwords Strategy/Tips Article
For $5 to start and as little as $15 (realistically) per month, you can significantly increase your website traffic. If you read and apply the concepts in this article, you will hopefully generate qualified leads that turn into sales or inquiries instead of just “traffic”. - Enjoy!
